Blake through the crack light of the noir.
HellBound Books Q & A
HBB: You have a smartly written, heart-pounding noir thriller with a one-of-a-kind Private Investigator. Where did you learn to write? And why PI Vanessa Young as the protagonist?
BR: I learned to write by getting it wrong a thousand times and reading as many books as I could get my hands on – I’ve had a great love of literature of all kinds from the moment I learned to read.
I wanted to create an investigative character who is as ruthless as she is smart and is motivated by money as well as uncovering the bad guys – that she is prepared to take part in a sleazy internet dating show to stop a killer speaks volumes about Ms. Young!
HBB: What was the inspiration for The Gentleman’s Choice TV show?
BR: The natural predecessors to The Gentleman’s Choice are the likes of The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, Love at First Sight, Love Island… the type of shows where they set up sexy young people to get together and then feign shock and horror when they actually hook up! I wanted to push that concept to its extreme – and ultimate – conclusion and explore the “what if…” when the wrong type of people get involved.
HBB: Would you take part in The Gentleman’s Choice show?
BR: Having written the book and knowing what happens, I really don’t think it would be wise, do you? 😉
HBB: If this novel had a playlist, what song would be your favorite?
BR: I’d have to say “Sympathy for the Devil” by the Rolling Stones.
HBB: Are you working on anything else?
BR: Absolutely – I have four more thrillers coming out this year – I’ve been busy writing over the past five years and they are ready to make their way out into the big wide world – “Dark Beauty,” “Goodbye Stranger,” “Red Line,” and “Kutri.” While they all deal with different concepts, each thriller is one heck of a ride in its own right! I’m also working on a brand new novel I’m not allowed to mention just yet – watch this space!
